Letter of Recommendation Requirements
Michigan prefers a committee letter. Applicants without committee access should submit at least three individual letters. A typical package includes two science faculty letters and one letter from a clinical or community supervisor. Up to six letters are accepted through AMCAS.
Who Should Write Your Letters
Faculty who supervised the applicant over an extended period in research or advanced coursework are especially valuable. Clinical supervisors, volunteer coordinators, and service leaders who can speak to empathy, professionalism, and patient interaction add perspective the academic letters cannot provide.

Letters are submitted through AMCAS. Michigan's secondary application may include additional instructions for specific tracks or combined programs.
Tips for a Strong Letter Package
Michigan values both research and service. If you have both dimensions of experience, ensure your letter package reflects that balance. A research mentor and a clinical or service supervisor together with science faculty can paint a complete picture.
